Reset An N95

There are two kinds of resets you can perform on your Nokia N95 smart phone. The soft reset restores your configuration files but leaves your data untouched, and it is advised as an attempt to deal with minor software and configuration problems. The "hard reset" clears your phone's entire drive and reinstalls basic phone software from scratch, destroying anything you've downloaded or stored on the phone since its last hard reset. Use the hard reset only when you are experiencing serious problems, such as constant crashing or a failure to boot up at all.

Instructions

Soft Reset

1. Turn on your phone.

2. Enter the following code simply by pressing these buttons at the home screen:

*#7780#

3. Enter your unlocking code (12345 by default) when prompted. This will clear all of your phone's settings by restoring its original INI files, but it will not disturb your downloaded applications or saved data.

Hard Reset

4. Turn off your phone.

5. Hold down, simultaneously, the green call button, the "*" button and the "3" button.

6. Continue to hold down the buttons while turning on the phone with the power button. Wait for the "Formatting" message to appear, then release all buttons and wait for the process to complete. This will both restore your configuration files and entirely clear your phone's drive, removing all of your downloaded apps and data in the process.
