VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is the technology of making phone calls over the Internet. According to the Los Angeles Times, "Voice over Internet converts the sound of your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet and is received just like an ordinary phone call." There are different programs that you can use to make calls from your PC to any mobile or land line.
Instructions
1. Skype: According to Los Angeles Times, Skype is "the largest of the half-dozen companies offering phone service through Internet connections." With Skype you can either buy a subscription or pay as you go. Call rates will vary depending on the country being phoned. Moreover, you can download Skype by going to Skype's homepage and clicking "Get Skype." Once you have launched Skype, click "Call phones," and enter the number you wish to call, and then press "Call." To buy credits or a subscription, click "View Account," then click "Buy more credit" if you wish to top up, otherwise click "Subscription" to buy a subscription.
2. VoIPCheap: This is another VoIP software that will allow you to make calls from your PC. VoIPCheap offers you free calls to several destinations, and low rates for others. You can download VoIPCheap by going to VoIPCheap's website and clicking "Free Download." Once you have launched VoIPCheap, type a phone number you wish to call in the box, and click the green telephone symbol to start your call. To buy more credit, select "Click here to go to your account page," and click "Buy credit."
3. SmartVoIP: This VoIP software is similar to VoIPCheap. It allows you to make free calls to many European destinations, and it offers low rates for other countries. You can download SmartVoIP by going to SmartVoIP's website and clicking "Download." Once you have launched SmartVoIP, type the phone number you wish to call in the box and press the green telephone symbol to start. To buy credit, select "Click here to go to your account page," and then click "Buy credit."
