The NH-7WMAA is a rechargeable nickel-metal hydride AA battery.
Sony's NH-7WMAA is a rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) AA battery produced in the mid-2000s for Sony's Walkman portable CD players and minidisc players. As the music and media market switched to MP3 and video players, the AA battery format became obsolete; as a result, Sony no longer manufactures the NH-7WMAA. Fortunately, you do not need an exact substitute for the NH-7WMAA because any AA battery will suffice for your needs.
AA Batteries
The AA format of the NH-7WMAA makes it easy to find replacement batteries because AA is the most common battery size on the market. However, not all AA batteries are created equal. AA batteries draw their energy from various chemical elements; NiMH, alkaline, nickel-cadmium (NiCad) and lithium-ion are some of the most common AA battery types. While any of the aforementioned AA batteries will work in your Sony Walkman, batteries with a NiMH base will provide best results because they match the style of the Walkman's original battery.
Cost Effectiveness
The most cost-effective substitute for the NH-7WMAA varies according to how frequently you use your Sony Walkman. If you use your Walkman sparingly, a standard four- or eight-pack of NiMH AA batteries will suffice for your needs and prevent you from unnecessarily spending extra money. If, however, you use your Walkman frequently, it may be better to purchase a set of rechargeable NiMH AA batteries; you will then be able to reuse the same batteries and charge them as needed instead of constantly replacing dead batteries.
Where to Purchase
Because NiMH is a common energy source for AA batteries, you can find these batteries in many locations. Grocery and convenience stores tend to sell regular NiMH batteries; these are most often available in packages of two, four, eight or sixteen. If you need rechargeable NiMH batteries or regular NiMH batteries in packages larger than sixteen, electronics stores or specialty stores can provide the product you need.
Where to Dispose
If your original NH-7WMAA battery no longer powers your Sony Walkman, you must appropriately dispose of the battery. Different states and municipalities have different laws regarding battery disposal, and you should become familiar with these rules prior to throwing away the original battery. Alternatively, major retailers such as Target and Best Buy accept rechargeable NiMH batteries for recycling, so you could dispose of your batteries at these chains' retail locations.
