Unlocking a Treo is just like unlocking any other PalmOS powered phone. You must first install the unlocking software on the phone so that you can retrieve the unlock data. Once you have the data you can visit a website to obtain the unlock code. Once you have the unlock code, you simply dial it into the phone and your Treo with be fully unlocked. Having an unlocked phone means that you can switch SIM cards with it anytime you want.
Instructions
1. Install Palm Desktop on your personal computer. A copy of Palm Desktop should have been included with your phone, but it is also available for free to download from the Palm website.
2. Download a Palm unlocking program. These are readily available on the Internet and you will be able to find them by simply by doing a Web search for your phone's model number followed by "unlock program" as the search terms. The program will probably be in Zip format. Unzip it once it has downloaded.
3. Plug your Treo phone into one of your computer's USB ports with the HotSync cable and press the button on the HotSync cable to initiate the sync. If the sync does not happen automatically, right flick on the HotSync icon in your system tray and direct it to the "Local USB" option.
4. Open the folder containing the unlock program and double-click on the file ending in PRC. Press "OK" to install the program on your Treo.
5. Turn the phone off, remove the battery for 10 seconds, put the battery back in the phone and press the reset button on the back of the phone using a paperclip or similar object. Hold the red power button for a few seconds to turn the phone on.
6. Locate the unlock program on the PalmOS and run it. If it is not visible, select the "All" category. Once the program has run, it will give you the unlock data necessary to complete the unlock process.
7. Go to the URL given in the unlock data. Type the unlock data into the box provided and click on "Verify Unlock Data" or a similar sounding option. If the data is verified the following Web page will confirm that the phone is unlocked and will give you an unlock code. Write the code down exactly as it is displayed.
8. Remove the battery from the phone for 10 seconds, replace the battery and reset the phone with the paperclip again. Hold the red power button for a few seconds to turn the phone radio on.
9. When the phone comes on it should say "No service - SOS only" or something like this. At this point, dial the unlock code. The phone will respond that the SIM lock has been removed and you will have a fully unlocked Treo.
