Unlocking the Verizon LG will allow the phone to work on another network.
Unlocking a Verizon LG phone is a fairly easy process. Unlocking the phone will allow it to work on a new network, but requires a few things of both the original and new provider. Verizon will have to allow the switch by granting an identification number, called the IMEI code, and the new network will have to provide a memory card, called an SIM card, that will connect the LG to the new network.
Instructions
1. Request the LG's IMEI code from Verizon by contacting Verizon customer service. The IMEI number identifies the LG, but also doubles as a code that can unlock the phone. Depending on the provisions of the contract with Verizon, the company may charge for the code.
2. Turn the LG off. Remove the protective covering for the battery on the back of the phone. Near the battery is a slot with a small card in it. That is Verizon's SIM card. Replace it with your new network's card.
3. Restart the LG. The phone will detect the SIM card of the new provider and ask for an authorization number to proceed. This is the IMEI code. Enter it on the LG's dial pad. After the phone has accepted the code, it will stop using Verizon's network and begin using the network of the new provider.
