Extend The Expire Time Of A Code Signing Certificate

Renewing a code signing certificate is less expensive than purchasing a new one.

A code signing certificate that is about to expire can be extended by purchasing a renewal. Code signing certificates expire because applications and platforms that use code signing need to have a certificate that is valid for security reasons. Renewing a certificate will require you to provide certificate identification information. Certificate Authorities such as Microsoft and Java use companies such as VeriSign and Thawte to renew certificates.

Instructions

1. Go to the website of VeriSign or Thawte. Both websites offer new code signing certificates or renewals of certificates. Ensure that the type of certificate you are currently using is renewable through these companies.

2. Choose the option to renew. Input the certificate's common name, order number or serial number. You will need to provide this information so that your certificate can be retrieved.

3. Input the common name, order number or serial number of your certificate. Once your certificate is located, you can proceed to purchase a renewal by following the instructions on the screen.
