Sync Gmail Contacts With Outlook

Users can sync Google and Microsoft Outlook accounts.

As more people are working and communicating with email, it has become vital for people to link home and business contacts. Google allows Gmail users to connect accounts with Microsoft Outlook (the standard email software used by many businesses). This sync allows the transfer of data, such as contacts, calendars and messages, to be shared between accounts or from one account to another, according to Google. The free download is available to Google account holders.

Instructions

1. Sign in to Google and visit the Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook Web site and start the installer. Make sure to select the installer that corresponds to the computer's system setup.

2. Install the application on the computer where Microsoft Outlook is used. Click "Download Google Apps Sync" button on Google's download page and then click run to install the software. Installation may take several minutes.

3. Click on the Google Sync icon on the desktop or in the start menu to open and determine computer settings, such as how often to sync files and how files should be synced. The application allows users to transfer data back and forth between Gmail and Outlook, from Outlook to Gmail only or from Gmail to Outlook only.

4. Import data. After the one-time import setup, the programs will continue to sync automatically based on selected preferences. Users will be prompted when the program is opened. Check boxes for data that should be synced in the dialog box---contacts, calendars, messages or notes.

5. Click on the Google Apps Sync icon in the toolbar to update instantly; otherwise the sync will update according to your settings as long as the computer is turned on and connected to the Internet.
