Use A Verizon Phone For Cricket Service

Use a Verizon Phone for Cricket Service

Cricket Wireless uses code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile technology. This means that a cell phone that works for other CDMA networks, like Verizon Wireless, can work on the Cricket Wireless network. But first, you must erase the Verizon Wireless programming from the cell phone and replace it with the Cricket Wireless programming. Although some CDMA mobile providers shy away from performing this service, called flashing, select Cricket Wireless locations offer the service right in the store.

Instructions

1. Open the Verizon Wireless website on your computer's Internet browser. Log into My Verizon. Click "My Contacts" from the landing page. Select the contacts that you want to backup from your cell phone. Open the export contacts option and follow the screen prompts to create and save your backup file to your computer's hard drive.

2. Locate Cricket Wireless stores in your area. Call around until you find that one that performs flashing services, usually the non-corporate stores.

3. Take your cell phone into the Cricket Wireless store you located in Step 2. Explain to the Cricket Wireless representative that you currently have Verizon Wireless for mobile service, but want to switch to Cricket Wireless. Allow the representative to install the Cricket programming on your cell phone and then to activate the handset on the Cricket Wireless network.

4. Log into the Cricket Wireless website. Access the "MyBackup" feature. Click "Import Contacts" and follow the screen prompts to upload the backup file of your cell phone contacts you made in Step 1.

5. Go to "Games and Applications" on your cell phone. Click "MyBackup" and follow the screen prompts to set up the program. Click "Yes" when the screen prompt asks you to restore the address book on your cell phone.
