The Nokia E71 includes document management, calendar and contact list applications for daily business functions. The map features can help you with navigation or business travel, if necessary, and the Internet telephone feature allows you to make calls through a VOIP service. When you need to remove the personal settings and account information from your E71, the hard reset function is an ideal method to delete much of the personal data in minutes.
Purpose
The hard reset on your E71 eliminates your personal information, returning the phone to the condition it was in directly from the factory. If you need to eliminate the customized settings and personal contact information you configured in your E71, the hard reset is an ideal starting point.
Process
Navigate to the "Tools" menu in your general phone menu. Select "Settings" then navigate to "Factory Settings." Select the "Factory Settings" option then input the lock code for the phone when prompted. If you are unsure what your E71's lock code is, call your wireless service provider for the number. The default lock code for the E71 is "1234." The phone will restart after the factory reset is complete.
Considerations
The initial restart may take an extended period of time, much like the first time you turned the phone on when you received it. The hard reset will not eliminate the calendar, contacts and any documents you have saved on the phone. Back this data up to a removable memory card before starting the reset process.
Alternative
Before you perform a hard reset and eliminate your data, do a soft reset to purge the system memory and possibly eliminate application or system errors. Turn the phone off, remove the battery and count to 10. Insert the battery and restart the phone. This will protect the integrity of your data. If you are getting rid of your phone, a hard reset eliminates most of your data. Delete any residual information individually.
