Getting The Internet On A Laptop Using A Sprint Cell Phone

Connecting your Sprint cell phone to your laptop will allow you to access the Internet anywhere.

If you don't have a Wi-Fi connection nearby and you need to connect to the Internet, then you can use a cell phone as an alternative modem. Although it won't be as fast as a DSL or Wi-Fi connection, it will still be fast enough to allow you to send email and surf the Internet. Best of all, you'll be able to get a connection from anywhere that you can get a phone signal.

Instructions

1. Connect one end of the USB cable to your phone and the other end to the computer. The USB should have been included with your phone when at the time of purchase; if not, you can purchase one from a local mobile phone store for $25 to $30, as of 2010. Windows will find your new device and ask you to install the drivers.

2. Insert your installation CD into your computer's drive. Select "Install from a list or specific location," select "Next," and go to "My Computer." Double-click on the drive containing the installation disk, and go to the folder with "Modem Drivers," then select "Install." Wait for the installation to complete, and click "Finish."

3. Set up the Internet connection. On your computer, click "Start," then "Control Panel," and select "Network and Internet Connection." Choose "Set up Internet Connection," then "Connections," and click on "Connect to the Internet." Click on "Next," then "Set up connection manually," then "Next." Then select the "Connect using a dial-up modem" tab, and then click on your phone modem and press "Next." Create a name for your connection and then click "Next."

4. Enter your username and password (you should have gotten this from your service provider). Select "Dial" to connect the phone modem. Click on your Internet browser, and you will now be able to surf the Internet.
