Install A Prepaid Sim Card To An Unlocked Phone

Using a prepaid SIM card is a way to manage cell phone access charges.

Using a prepaid SIM (subscriber identity module) card in a wireless phone will limit you to spending in access charges only the amount purchased in advance. This can help prevent large unexpected cell phone bills. Prepaid SIM cards are widely available and cost about $20 as of 2010. The process to install a prepaid SIM card is straightforward.

Instructions

1. Turn off the phone and slide off the rear battery cover.

2. Remove the battery from the compartment. It should pop out relatively easily.

3. Lift the metal gate holding the white rectangular plastic chip. This is the SIM card. Slide it out and replace it with the new prepaid card. Close the metal gate.

4. Replace the battery and the cover and turn on the phone. When it finishes powering on, you will see the name of the service provider, the SIM card manufacturer, at the top of the phone.
