Downloading and setting new ringtones and answer tones for the iPhone is one of the many ways for users to customize the device to their liking. These tones allow users to hear their favorite songs or tones when their phone rings and lets others hear their favorite songs when calling them. Both Apple and the phone's carriers have made it extremely easy to download both of these types of tones for use with the device.
Instructions
Getting Ringtones
1. Turn on and unlock the iPhone. Enter any required password or slide the unlock bar to access the phone.
2. Scroll along the home screen until the iTunes application is visible. Tap it to open the iTunes store on the phone.
3. Use the search bar to find the preferred tone, entering in any key information, such as song or artist names. Tap the search button to locate the preferred ringtone.
4. Scroll through the list of results until the preferred ringtone is found. Tap the price next to the ringtone, and tap the Buy button to confirm the purchase.
5. Sign in to the phone's iTunes account if required, and confirm the purchase. The ringtone will automatically appear in the downloads section until the download is complete, in which a box will appear on the screen giving the user the option to set the ringtone as the default tone, or to assign it to a specific user.
Getting Answer Tones
6. Login to the phone line's account management on a computer via the AT&T or Verizon website, depending on the carrier that the phone is running on.
7. Locate the Edit or Add Features option on the site, and look for either Answer Tones or Ringback Tones. Select to add the feature to the phone if it does not already exist, and choose to browse through the selection of available tones.
8. Search for and select the preferred answer tone, and select to purchase and add it to the phone.
