USB is short for universal serial bus.
The DKU-5 cable is an important connectivity adapter for Nokia cellphones. One side is a special port designed specifically for the cellphone, and the other is a USB plug. This cable enables the cellphone to transfer data into any personal computer that is USB compatible. The cellphone port and the USB plug are rarely broken, but the wires are susceptible to damage. When a DKU-5 cable becomes damaged, a new one can be made from the old parts.
Instructions
1. Cut off the damaged cable wires with a pair of general wire cutters.
2. Strip off 1 inch from the cable's outer tubing, for both of the separated cables. Inside the cable there are four wires.
3. Strip 1 inch of outer covering for each of the four wires on both separated cables, until only the copper threaded wire remains.
4. Twist the green-colored copper threaded wire to the other cable's exposed green-colored copper threaded wire. Repeat this step for the red, black and blue wires, as well.
5. Press the heated tip of the soldering iron to one of the conjoined copper threaded wires. Then press the solder against the heated tip, until a layer of solder covers the wires and joins them together. Repeat this step for all four conjoined copper threaded wires.
6. Slide the electrical heat shrink tubing over the exposed threaded copper wires.
7. Heat the electrical heat shrink tubing with a heat gun, until the tubing conforms snugly to the wires.
