Your mobile telephone number is connected to your SIM card, a small microchip that is inserted into your phone to store data and allow the phone to function. If you desire to change your telephone number, one way to do it is to purchase a new SIM card. However, getting a new SIM card means that you also have to go through the hassle of moving your contacts and other information from the old card to the new one. There is an easier way to change your phone number without your data being affected.
Instructions
1. Contact your mobile service provider. When calling your provider, be sure to call them from a phone other than your mobile phone.
2. Advise your mobile service provider that you would like to change the mobile telephone for your SIM card. Also advise your mobile service provider the reason you desire to change your number, such as getting harassing telephone calls or you moved to a different state. Depending upon your mobile service provider and your reason for changing your number, you may or may not be assessed a fee.
3. Provide the mobile service provider with your SIM card number. You can locate your SIM card number by removing the cover plate from the back of your phone and removing the battery. Underneath the battery, you will see the SIM card. The SIM card number will be a long series of numbers that appear on your SIM card.
4. Wait while the mobile service provider changes your number. The representative may require you to turn off your mobile phone while the number is being changed and power it back on after the change has been completed.
