The now-discontinued Motorola V505 is a quad-band Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) compatible cellular telephone that was sold by AT&T wireless in the United States. The phone features a color TFT display, Bluetooth compatibility, a speaker phone and Mutimedia Messaging Service (MMS) capabilities. The Motorola V505 was sold by AT&T with a carrier lock, meaning you can't use the phone with a non-AT&T Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card. It is possible, however, to unlock your Motorola V505 so you can use it with another carrier.
Instructions
1. Purchase a new SIM card for your Motorola V505. Cell phone carriers offer both pre-paid and post-paid SIM cards for use on their cellular networks. In the United States, the other major GSM cellular phone service provider besides AT&T is T-Mobile.
2. Call AT&T customer service at 800-331-0500 and tell the representative you would like to get the unlock code for your Motorola V505. The representative will verify your account information. To receive the unlock code, you will need to have an AT&T post-paid account that has been in good standing for a minimum of 90 days. When the representative gives you the unlock code, write it down on a piece of paper.
3. Remove the back cover and battery from the back of your Motorola V505. Under the battery, you will find your AT&T SIM card. Remove it and insert the SIM card you purchased in Step 1. Insert the battery, replace the back cover and power on your cell phone.
4. Enter the unlock code you received from the AT&T customer service representative in Step 2. When the phone is powered on, the phone will display the message "Enter Special Code." Your Motorola V505 is now unlocked and you can use the phone with any SIM card.
