Setting Up A Bluetooth Handsfree

Bluetooth Headset

Hands-free Bluetooth devices can be great for driving or when you need to use both hands. Bluetooth headsets are the most common form of hands-free devices, but GPS units and small speakerphones can also often be used as hands-free devices with cell phones. If you've recently purchased a hands-free device, getting it set up to work with your cell phone should only take a few minutes.

Power on Your Hands-Free Device

Power on your hands-free device, and place it near your cell phone. Most hands-free devices only have a reach of 3 or 4 feet, so you will want to sit it close to your phone to make sure the phone can find it.

Power on Bluetooth

Go into the Bluetooth menu on your phone (typically found in the settings menu) and make sure the Bluetooth on your phone is powered on. Bluetooth requires some battery power, so many manufacturers will ship phones with the Bluetooth powered off.

Pair Your Device

Have your phone "Search for new devices" to locate your new hands-free device. The search option should also be found in the Bluetooth menu on your phone. Once your phone finds your hands-free device, enter the pairing code to wirelessly connect the two. It is typically found on a sticker attached to a hands-free device. If there is no sticker, look for a pairing code in the instruction book.
