Customize your cell phone by downloading and assigning ringtones.
You can create ringtones for your cell phone from your favorite music CDs using a Macintosh, Windows or Linux computer with iTunes, Windows Media Player or similar software, and an Internet connection. Best of all, you can create these ringtones for free.
Instructions
1. Rip your selected music (or other audio source) into MP3, WMA or OGG format using music software such as iTunes or Windows Media Player and save to your computer. Alternatively, you can use MP3 music you purchased or ripped previously.
2. Go to MakeOwnRingtone.com or another free MP3-to-ringtone conversion service website.
3. Click the "Upload" button.
4. Navigate to your MP3 or WMA file to be converted and select it.
5. Click "Open" to upload your file. The web page will upload your file and generate a waveform of the file.
6. In the waveform, click once to set the point where conversion will begin.
7. In the waveform, click once to set the point where conversion will end.
8. Click and drag the start and end points in the waveform to select the portion of the music file to convert into a ringtone. You can select any length from any part of the music file to use as a ringtone. Consider using the first 1:30--one minute, 30 seconds--for your ringtone: The beginnings of many songs are memorable and easy to recognize.
9. Click the appropriate button to sample the range of the music file you selected. Adjust the start and end points until your ringtone plays as desired.
10. Choose the final format for your ringtone. This will depend on your cell phone; MP3, a common ringtone format, works with many phones.
11. Choose the final bit rate for your ringtone. A larger bit rate results in a larger file but better sound. A smaller bit rate results in a smaller file but degraded sound. Try the default 96 Kbits per second.
12. Choose to receive your ringtone as a download to your cell phone. For this download method, you will need Internet access on your phone.
13. Check the box next to "Normalize" to save your ringtone at the loudest volume possible without distortion.
14. Check the box beside "Fade" to create a fade-in or fade-out for your ringtone if you wish.
15. Click the "Make a Ringtone" button to convert your music file to a ringtone.
16. After a few seconds, the web page will prepare your ringtone and post a temporary URL in a pop-up window. Using your web-enabled cell phone, navigate to the temporary URL posted in the pop-up window.
17.Select and download your new ringtone to your phone from the temporary web page. Save your new ringtone if your phone does not do this automatically.
18. Assign your new ringtone to people in your contact list, to your generic ringtone or to other notifications depending on the capabilities of your cell phone.
