Adjust The Space Bar Touch On An Hp Keyboard

Every keyboard should perform correctly.

It's annoying when you hit the space bar on your Hewlett Packard keyboard and two spaces appear on the screen instead of one ... or no space appears at all. This problem can be a sign of a worn-out keyboard--which you usually cannot fix because most keyboards are made of inexpensive, nonrepairable plastic parts--or it could be a software problem. Try adjusting the software before you throw away your keyboard.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button at the lower-left of your screen, then "Control Panel."

2. Click "Keyboard" in Windows XP and older versions of Windows; in Windows 7 and Vista, click "Hardware and Sound," then "Keyboard."

3. If your space bar is making more than one space or is generally too sensitive, move the "Repeat Delay" setting toward the "Long" side of the scale. Click in the box that says "Click here and hold down a key" to test.

4. Move the "Repeat Delay" toward "Short," then repeat the spacebar test as above, noting the shorter repeat time.

5. Move the "Repeat Rate" setting toward the "Slow" side of the scale. Click in the box that says "Click here and hold down a key" to test. Hold down the spacebar on your HP keyboard, noting that a "Slow" setting means the repeat rate will be slower when you hold down the spacebar.

6. Move the "Repeat Rate" toward "Fast," then repeat the spacebar test as above, noting the faster repeat rate.

7. Set both settings where they work best and click "Apply," then click "OK." Close the Control Panel. Any changes will remain in effect, even after the computer is turned off and on again.
