The BlackBerry is a modern mobile device that offers phone services, social networking services and online browsing. BlackBerries can be found in various models and can be purchased from various mobile service providers. When you purchase a BlackBerry 8800 through a service provider, the device is locked to that specific provider's network. To use it with your service provider of choice, the BlackBerry 8800 needs to be unlocked from the network.
Instructions
1. Contact your BlackBerry service provider by calling their customer service line or visiting a service provider store.
2. Tell the clerk that you wish to unlock your BlackBerry 8800. Provide the clerk with your personal information, your contract number and your SIM card code.
3. Pay the unlocking fee. The amount may vary depending on your contract status, as you may be asked to pay more if you are under contract to compensate the service provider for leaving your contract. If you are not under contract, the unlocking fee may be minimal.
4. Take your BlackBerry 8800 to manually wipe the device of any account information when you are done with the clerk. Click "Home" and choose the "Options" button in the menu.
5. Select the "Security Options" button and choose the "General Settings" option.
6. Click on the Menu key on the BlackBerry keyboard, bringing up a menu within the device's general settings. Select the "Wipe Handheld" option to clean the device's account information.
7. Remove the SIM card from the BlackBerry 8800. You can now register the SIM card device with the service provider of your choice.
