A number of smartphone apps have been developed to let you use your phone's built-in camera as a webcam. Most of these apps are designed for use on Android smartphones, but there are a few for Apple's iPhone as well. The app is useful as part of a security system, a nanny cam, or as a pet or baby monitor. DroidCam Wireless Webcam
DroidCam Wireless Webcam lets you use your Android smartphone as a webcam over Wi-Fi and USB connections. Its features include microphone support, adjustable resolution settings and integration with services like Skype, Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Live Messenger. A free proprietary desktop client must also be installed on your computer in order for the app to function properly. DroidCam Wireless Webcam is a free app for Android devices. WebCamera turns your iPhone into a wireless webcam with microphone support. It connects with both PCs and Macs via Wi-Fi. The app's features include three resolution settings, individual frame and video stream capture, and iPhone 4 front camera support. WebCamera is compatible with most major video chat services, including Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ and AIM. WebCamera is a paid application that costs around $3 and requires iOS 4.0 or later.
EpocCam
EpocCam lets you capture wireless webcam video from your Android smartphone. It captures video at resolutions up to 720 by 480 pixels and at rates up to 30 frames per second. You can also opt to use an audio-only mode that turns your smartphone into a wireless microphone. EpocCam is compatible with a wide variety of chat services, including Facebook Video Calling, Skype, MSN Live Messenger, ICQ and Yahoo! Messenger. EpocCam is a free app for Android devices. It's 596 KB in size and requires Android 2.2 or higher.
