Unlock A Nokia 6021 Phone

Nokia began production of its model 6021 cell phone in 2005. It's a stripped-down starter phone with no camera made mostly for Middle Eastern and European markets, but it does operate with Bluetooth technology for some modern functionality. If you want to use your 6021 phone on a new service provider, for new rates or to avoid roaming charges while traveling, you won't be able to do so without first obtaining an unlock code. For certain models, on certain networks, Nokia will give out unlock codes for free. If not, you can buy one cost-effectively at one of many online services.

Instructions

1. Write down your Nokia 6021's 15-digit IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. Find it by pressing *#06# on your phone key pad or by removing your back cover and battery and looking on the label underneath.

2. Call Nokia's customer support department (the link in Resources provides country-specific contact information). Provide the company with your IMEI number and ask nicely for the unlock code. Sometimes the representative will be authorized to distribute the code for free. Otherwise, navigate to an online unlocking service (three are provided in the Resources section) and buy one that way. Older-model phones like the 6021 have prices that start as low as $9.99. This is a legal process.

3. Remove the back cover and battery of your 6021 and slide your old SIM card from its slot under the battery.

4. Replace your battery and turn the phone on. When prompted, enter your unlock code. (Sometimes, you will have to press "Send".) A message will inform you if the unlock code was accepted.

5. Remove the battery again and insert your new carrier's SIM card. Replace the battery and back cover, then power on with your new plan.
