Connect A Smartphone To Yale Wireless

You can connect to the Yale Wi-Fi network from your personal smartphone.


Yale University offers wireless Internet services for all students, staff and faculty members. The Yale Wi-Fi network is available in most residences, libraries, academic buildings and administrative buildings. If you have a smartphone, you can connect to the Yale wireless network from it once you configure the virtual private network, or VPN, settings. The configuration process differ slightly for each type of smartphone, but the necessary settings are the same for all.


Instructions


1. Enable the Wi-Fi radio on your smartphone to begin scanning the area for available wireless networks.


2. Select "YaleSecure" from the list of available networks.


3. Go to the "VPN" section of your smartphone's network settings.


4. Enable the VPN service and set the VPN type to "L2TP."


5. Fill in the "Description" field with any label for the VPN configuration you will be adding.


6. Set the VPN server field to "vpnwindows.yale.edu."


7. Fill in the "Account" and "Password" fields with your Yale NetID credentials.


8. Enter "legacy" as the VPN secret.


9. Save the VPN configuration to finish connecting to the Yale wireless network.
