Get to where you are going with an updated GPS unit.
The value of owning a GPS is often a mystery to those who don't have one. But after you have used this device, it's often hard to live without it. As roads change to one-ways, highways and exits are added and new traffic cameras are installed (a notification feature on some GPS units), a GPS can become outdated in a matter of years. This is why GPS companies sell updates for their products, and you may consider updating your GPS before you begin to travel. Fortunately, updating a GPS is not difficult since the company's website prompts you through every step of the process.
Instructions
1. Visit your GPS manufacturer's website and look for an "Update" or "Maps" tab or button. Click on it. If you clicked on a "Maps" button, click on an "Update" button from there.
2. Review the update options, along with the features and costs for your GPS. You may need to know the model number to see what is available for your unit. Look on the unit itself or in the user manual. However, some companies require you to first connect your GPS unit to the USB port on your computer, using the connection cable that came with your unit. You will then be able to find out what is available.
3. Follow the prompts to choose the map update option you want to download. Complete the order by selecting a "Buy now" button and complete the purchase. For some units free maps and updates are available.
4. Continue to follow the prompts to download the updated map or other features to your GPS. It is usually just one or two clicks away. The GPS must be connected to your computer for this step.
