Cell Boosters That Work With Wifi

A number of products on the market can improve cellular and Wi-Fi connections for a cellular phone. These products allow customers to make phone calls from their cell phones over a home Wi-Fi network. There are also products that will convert a cellular service into a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Femtocell

Femtocell products connect to a mobile phone service using standard broadband or cable modem connections. They provide a boost to cellular phone service coverage within a home. Because they operate over a radio frequency, they must be operated through a cellular service provider. AT&T's femtocell is currently available as the MicroCell. It acts like a mini-cell tower, extending the AT&T cellular service coverage by about 40 feet.

Home Hotspot

T-Mobile's Hotspot@Home allows enabled cellular phones to make calls though Wi-Fi rather than through a cellular network. These enabled phones will automatically switch to Wi-Fi when they are in range of a Wi-Fi router.

3G Broadband Routers

Netgear offers a router that is compatible with any 3G and beyond broadband network. The 3G+ Mobile Broadband Wireless-N Router creates Wi-Fi hotspots through a cellular network where DSL or Cable access is not available.
