Remove Associated Phone Number From Cell Phones

Remove Associated Phone Number From Cell Phones

Cell phones have become the way of the world. With the ever-increasing technology, people frequently upgrade their phones and often sell their old phones. Whether you want to sell your cell phone, you broke your phone, or you just got tired of having a certain phone number, removing the phone number associated with your cell phone can be quick and simple.

Instructions

1. Cancel the cell phone subscription. Once you have ended your service with the cellular provider, the phone number that you once had is no longer associated with the phone. You may end the cell phone service at anytime; however, if you end during a contract you will incur early termination fees. Once the service has been ended, the phone number will no longer be in service and your cell phone is no longer associated with any phone number.

2. Deactivate the cell phone. This can be completed if you wish to change the particular cell phone you use. Choose a new phone and at the time the new phone is activated, your old phone will become deactivated. Your old phone will no longer have a phone number associated with it unless you later choose to reactivate the phone.

3. Remove the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card if it equipped with one. Not all phones are equipped with SIM card; In fact, Verizon Wireless does not offer any phones with SIM cards, while other cellular providers offer both phones with and without SIM cards. According to TopBits.com, a SIM card is essentially an external hard drive that stores personal information as well as information about the cellular carrier's operating system. By removing the SIM card, you will deactivate the phone entirely. You can insert the SIM card into another phone if you wish, which automatically activates the new phone with the existing phone number.

4. Request a new phone number. You can removed the phone number associated with your cell phone by simply calling your provider and asking for a new phone number. Once you have selected the new phone number, your old phone number will immediately be replaced with the new number.
