Synchronize Skype & A Phone

Synchronize Skype & a Phone

Skype is one of the most popular VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) services available today. Millions of computer users daily utilize Skype for video, audio and text chats, usually free of charge. Since Skype allows you to make calls over the Internet to other Skype users--or, with some carriers, Skype calls also work using 3G cellular coverage--the ability to use Skype on a cell phone to place calls between devices has grown in popularity.

Instructions

Getting Skype onto Your Phone

1. Visit the Skype website (see Resources) to be sure your device is capable of utilizing Skype for your phone. Currently, Skype for Mobile is supported on the most popular smartphone devices, including iPhone, Android, Symbian (Nokia) and BlackBerry devices.

2. Enter your cell phone number in the box on the left of the page to have Skype Mobile delivered to your device via an SMS (text) message.

3. Click on the link in the SMS to begin the installation process. This will place the Skype application on your phone.

4. Input your username and password information once you open Skype following installation. This will allow you to use Skype for text chats, and depending on your carrier's support level, make voice calls through Skype over 3G coverage or wireless Internet connections.
