Unlock A Nokia Cell Phone

When you purchase a cellphone, your service provider locks the cellphone so you can't use the phone on another network; however, there are ways to unlock your Nokia cellphone so you can use it on other networks. Some companies charge a fee to unlock a cellphone, but in many cases, you can do it yourself.

Instructions

1. Ask your service provider to unlock your Nokia cellphone; ask for a cellphone unlock code. If you are a longtime customer, the service provider may agree. Indicate you are moving to an area where the company doesn't offer service and are requesting a cellphone unlock code so you can continue to use your cellphone.

2. If you cannot get a cellphone unlock code from your provider, download software that provides cellphone unlocking codes or contact a service online. These cellphone unlocking software packages or services are generally fee-based, but some software is free.

3. Locate your serial number, or IMEI number. Take the back off your cellphone or type #06 on your Nokia phone to get your serial number.

4. Follow the software instructions to unlock your phone. Each cellphone unlocking software provides similar directions that typically involve removing the battery and SIM card, entering the code and starting up again. Once you do that, you have successfully unlocked a Nokia cellphone.
