The iPod is Apple's flagship MP3 player.
The fifth-generation iPod relies on a hard drive to store your movies, music and other content, but as with any other hard drive-based device, it's possible that the part can fail over time. In these situations, you will have to remove the old hard drive from within the iPod. With several third-party accessories, though, you can quickly remove the iPod's hard drive from the MP3 player's case.
Instructions
1. Take the wedge tool and work it into the gap between the metal backing and plastic frontside of the iPod. Move the wedge tool around the perimeter of the iPod to dislodge the hinges that hold the iPod together.
2. Continue moving the wedge tool along the iPod until the metal backside is no longer attached. Move and place aside.
3. Locate the ribbon cable that holds the hard drive to the iPod's motherboard. The hard drive will be the largest component inside the iPod --- it will also have a sheet of blue foam on one side. The ribbon cable will be located near the iPod's dock connector.
4. Use the wedge tool to lift the tiny black switch that holds the ribbon cable to the hard drive. This will run alongside the hard drive's ribbon cable adapter.
5. Pull out the cable once the switch is lifted. Place the hard drive aside.
