Unlock A Chocolate Phone

LG Chocolate, also known as LG KG800, is a GSM cell phone that often comes locked to a network when you purchase it on a contract from a carrier. If you plan to use a SIM card from a different network provider, you will have to unlock the device. Unlocking can be accomplished using a special code generated for your particular handset. Many companies generate these codes, which you can use to liberate your phone from the network block installed by your current carrier.

Instructions

1. Find your LG Chocolate's International Mobile Equipment Identity number (IMEI), also known as the serial number. The unlock code for your phone will be generated based on this serial number. You can find it by pressing "*#06#" on the phone keypad. Write down the 15-digit number that appears on the screen.

2. Buy an unlock code from an online unlocking company like GSM Liberty, Unlock All Cellular or Mobile Unlocked. (See Resources.) The code will cost you between $11.99 and $24.99, as of 2010. You have to provide the phone's IMEI number and pay for the code online. It will arrive via email within a few days.

3. Insert a non-accepted SIM card into the phone. A non-accepted SIM card is a SIM card from a network carrier other than the one the phone is locked to.

4. Turn on the phone. You will see "Phone restricted" on the display.

5. Press "Cancel." You will see "Phone Restriction Code" message on the screen.

6. Enter the unlock code you purchased from the online store.

7. Press "OK." Your phone will then be unlocked.
