Put A Disassembled Chair Back Together
1. Organize pieces. Take a look at the pieces and put them into groups which will make it easier to work with. Locate the chair legs, the seat, head rest, arms and spindles.
2. Label the pieces. With a pencil, on the underside of each piece, label each piece of the puzzle. For example, label legs, L1, L2, L3, L4, etc.
3. Replace legs. Start with the seat which is the foundation of the chair. The underside of the chair should have notches already carved for the legs to rest in. Drop an ample amount of glue into the notches and replace the legs. After legs are in place, wipe off any excess glue. Allow to dry.
4. Replace chair back. While legs are drying, work on the back. If the chair has spindles, glue the spindles into the head rest. Wipe off any excess glue. Allow to dry completely.
5. Constructing. After legs have dried thoroughly, gently nail small finishing nails to ensure sturdiness. Attach spindles to the seat with wood glue and allow to dry completely. If chair has arms, attach the arms to the seat by using wood glue. If needed, use a rubber mallet to ensure that spindles and arms are properly inserted into seat.
6. Finishing touches. When the wood glue is completely dry, secure spindles and chair arms with finishing nails. Avoid sitting in the chair for a few days to ensure that the glue is completely dry and able to hold the weight of an adult.
