Using your BlackBerry smartphone as the sole storage place for all of your contacts goes against the age-old wisdom of not putting all your eggs in one basket. Synchronizing your BlackBerry to your computer gives you security if your device is ever lost, stolen or damaged as well as giving you access to the information in another form. BlackBerry distributes free software that works with Macintosh computers to synchronize your contacts and any other information.
Instructions
1. Visit the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac download page (see Resources). Press the "Download" button. Select "Save File" and press "Okay."
2. Double-click on the downloaded file to mount it as a disk image. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager will open in the Finder.
3. Double-click "BlackBerry Desktop Manager.mpkg." Proceed through the installation process, following the onscreen prompts. Click the "Restart" button once the installation is complete.
4. Go to the "Applications" folder and double-click BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
5. Connect your BlackBerry to your Mac using the USB cable that came with your BlackBerry.
6. Click on "Contacts" in the "Information" menu of the left panel. Select "Two Way" from the "Sync Contacts" field.
7. Synchronize all of your contacts by clicking "All contacts and groups" or synchronize specific contacts or groups by clicking "Selected groups" and using the check boxes. Click "Sync" to complete the process.
