Set Gprs For A Nokia 5300

Connecting your Nokia 5300 to GPRS can be frustrating without clear instructions.

If you want to connect to the GPRS on your Nokia Xpress Music 5300, you have to configure the phone's settings correctly before you will be able to connect. The Nokia 5300 is a Bluetooth-enabled slider phone with a music player and an integrated 1.3-megapixel camera. Nokia generally refers to GPRS connections as "packet data," and this can easily become a source of confusion when trying to set up the GPRS on your 5300.

Instructions

1. Press the "0" key for three seconds. This is a quick test that will tell you if you need to set the GPRS settings on your phone. If the 5300 brings up your operator's homepage (or any other Web page), the required settings are already in place on your phone.

2. Contact your network provider if the 5300 doesn't connect. You will need to find out the information that has to be entered in to the relevant settings field on your phone. Some providers have this information available online, and others may send it to you as a text message.

3. Open the 5300's menu. Do this by pressing the middle "Selection Key." This is located in the center of the four-way "Scroll Key," which is underneath the display screen, on the upper half of the phone.

4. Select "Settings" from the menu, and then "Configuration." Navigate the menus with the four-way "Scroll Key" and the relevant "Selection Key." The middle "Selection Key" can be pressed to select options from menus.

5. Select "Personal Configuration Settings" and press "Add." If you already have a settings profile on the phone, you can press the left "Selection Key" to go to the "Options" and then select "Add New." Finally, select "Web" from the options displayed. This will bring up the settings that your phone uses to connect to GPRS.

6. Fill in the fields as directed by your provider. You need to enter the correct information in these fields or the connection will not work. Select the fields using the middle "Selection Key" and enter the relevant information using the number/alphabet buttons. Hold the "*" button if you need to enter any special characters. After you've completed the fields listed there, highlight "Access Point Settings" and press the middle "Selection Key."

7. Enter the required information in the "Access Point Settings" screen. After you've entered the details in the same way as before, go to "Bearer Settings" and complete the required fields there.

8. Press the right "Selection Key" to go "Back" to the "Personal Configuration Settings" menu. The left or right "Selection Key" performs the action written in the bottom left or right of the display screen, respectively. It should require three presses to go back to the relevant screen. You should see your new account name listed there.

9. Highlight the new profile and press the left "Selection Key" to go to "Options." Press the middle "Selection Key" to "Activate" the profile. You can now return to the 5300's main screen and hold "0" to activate your GPRS connection.
