Citing the APA manual in APA format is required for first year psychology students learning to write papers in APA format. APA refers to the American Psychological Association. Instructions
1. Locate a copy of the most recent edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. This manual is a standard requirement for students of psychology and is available at most college bookstores and online booksellers.
2. Obtain the following data: author, year of publication, city of publication and publisher for the Manual. This information is required to cite the APA Manual. The book is available in soft cover, hard cover, spiral bound cover and Spanish version. Each version's information will be slightly different.
3. Note the APA Publication manual does list a corporate author: American Psychological Association. The corporate author should be listed when writing the citation.
4. Cite the manual in text by referring to the (Author, Year) in the text of the citation for example: (American Psychological Association, 2001).
5. Cite the Publication manual in the reference list by: Author. (Year of Publication). Title. City of Publication: Publisher. Remember the first line should be flushed left with all subsequent lines indented. For the APA Manual one example of a cited reference is: American Psychological Association. (2001). Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. New York: American Psychological Association.
