Manually Open The Car Door When The Remote Does Not Work On A 2000 Mercedes

The 2000 model year Mercedes vehicles, like many other model years, have an electronic ignition key. This key is inserted into the ignition slot and turned to crank the engine. The doors are unlocked by pressing the "Unlock" button on the electronic-key remote. This electronic key has an internal battery. If the battery fails, you may find yourself unable to open your doors. Fortunately, Mercedes includes a backup mechanical key in all of its electronic keys.

Instructions

1. Bring your Mercedes electronic key to your vehicle. Examine your electronic key closely.

2. Look on the top side of the key to find the lock. It is a small tab that is labeled with an arrow. Push the tab in the direction of the arrow. This unlocks the mechanical key.

3. Locate the mechanical key handle on the side of your electronic key. This is a small metal loop. Pull the metal loop downward toward the lock tab. This removes the mechanical key.

4. Insert the mechanical key into your driver's door or trunk. Turn it to unlock the door or trunk.

5. Push the mechanical key down into its slot. Push the lock tab in the opposite direction of the arrow to lock the mechanical key inside.
