You can use an unlocked SIM card with another cell phone provider.
Cell phone users who own a 3G SIM card may want to know if they can unlock their cellular device, so they can switch to a different network provider in the future. Though you can unlock your SIM card, you may have to meet certain requirements depending on your cell service company such as an account that does not have any past due payments. If you have access to your IMEI number, obtain your unlock code from your cellular company and learn put a new SIM card in your phone, you can unlock a 3G SIM card.
Instructions
1. Obtain your IMEI number. Push the call button on your phone, and then type *#06# on you cell device to get this code. When the IMEI number appears, jot down the number on a pad and keep it in a safe place.
2. Call your network provider. Dial 611 on your phone to reach your cell phone company. When you reach Tech Support, ask them for the code you need to unlock your SIM card.
3. Read your IMEI number to the Tech Support department. After you give the representative the best email address on which to reach you, plan to get the SIM unlock code via electronic mail along with directions to guide you through the process.
4. Take out the battery from your 3G phone with your phone turned off. Take out the old SIM card and insert a new one from your new cellular phone company. Put your battery back into your phone and turn it on. When you turn your cellular device on, your 3G phone identifies the new device and asks you to type the unlock code that you obtained via email to complete the process. Entering the code will unlock your phone.
