Unlock A Base Map For A Garmin Mobile Xt

Garmin is best known for manufacturing GPS navigation devices for the road, water and air. The company also produces navigation software called Mobile XT, available on SD card, for BlackBerry and the Toshiba Qosmio F55. The card turns your phone into a dual device, capable of smartphone functionality as well as GPS direction-finding. If you need to unlock your base map and upgrade your Garmin software for Mobile XT, the process is streamlined to keep your phone providing up-to-date advice.

Instructions

1. Open your cell phone's SD card slot and ensure your Garmin Mobile XT SD card is inserted and seated correctly. Close the door and turn on your device. Connect it, via USB connector, with a Web-ready computer with a Windows operating system.

2. Navigate to the Garmin downloads site in the Resources section.

3. Select the upgrade for your device and click "Download." (Upgrades are available for Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian and more.) Click "I Agree" at the bottom of the next Webpage, then "Download" again. Choose to "Save File" on your computer.

4. Double-click on the upgrade's icon on your computer after it has fully downloaded. Select "Run," then select the location of the memory card and "Install." Select "Yes" to finish unlocking your old base map and installing your new firmware.

5. Download new map upgrades--for a fee--to your Garmin Mobile XT device in the same fashion. Stay aware of new updates for your device by registering your device at Garmin's main website.
