Reloading the software on your BlackBerry is a common troubleshooting step taken by tech support representatives. When asked to reinstall the software it means the device has a corruption that can only be repaired by completely wiping the old software off the phone. This usually means reconfiguring the BlackBerry Enterprise settings. However, it is possible to complete the reinstall of the operating system without losing your Enterprise settings.
Instructions
1. Tether your Enterprise BlackBerry to your work computer with the USB cable supplied by BlackBerry when you purchased your device. If you were assigned a BlackBerry by your IT department and you were not given a USB, contact them to obtain one. Plug the small end of the cable into your BlackBerry and plug the other end into your work computer.
2. Open the Desktop Manager software located on your desktop. Wait for your BlackBerry to display "Connected to Desktop." This indicates the connection is completed.
3. Click on the icon called "Application Loader." Once in the "Application Loader" click on "Update Software." The computer searches for available software installed on your computer by your IT department.
4. Place a check mark next to the BlackBerry Operating System and then click on "Next" to install the software. The program's default configuration completes a backup of your personal and corporate settings and restores them once the operating system installs. This reestablishes connection to the BES server. This process takes upwards of 45 minutes to complete. Do not disconnect your BlackBerry while the software installs.
