Symbian is the standard operating system for the Nokia E71, and all other Nokia smart phone devices. This operating system is pre-installed on all E71 devices. However, if the operating system becomes corrupted in some way or an update/upgrade is needed, you can install or re-install the Symbian operating system firmware by using the Nokia Software Update application. The process is fairly straightforward.
Instructions
1. Download and install the Nokia Software Updater application onto your computer (see Resources).
2. Plug the sync cable into the "Sync" port on the bottom of your Nokia E71. Plug the other end of the cable into an available USB port on your computer.
3. Double-click the Nokia Software Updater icon on your computer to launch the application. The application will automatically detect the Nokia E71 device connected to the computer and populate the main window with the device's information.
4. Click the radial button next to "Nokia E71 Device Software;" then click the "Install" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the application window. The updater application will install the Symbian operating system onto your E71 device.
