My Nokia 6300 Is Silent And Won'T Work

If your Nokia 6300 is silent and not working properly -- or at all -- you could be a candidate for a new phone or an expensive repair bill. Then again, a few troubleshooting tips and steps may be all that stand in your way of an operational device. Regardless of your tech knowledge and capabilities, these steps are not difficult to complete on your own.

Settings

If your Nokia 6300 is silent when you don't want it to be, check the phone's volume to ensure that it's turned up. Sometimes, you may inadvertently set the phone to silent or reduce its volume to an inaudible level while you navigate the device's features or put it in your pocket. Access this feature through the phone's "Menu" option on its home screen, then choose "Settings" and "Tones." You can also access these settings through the "Profiles" option on the "Menu" list.

Bricking

If you have recently tampered with the Nokia 6300's internal components, or have attempted to install an unauthorized application, your phone may become "bricked." A bricked phone is one that ceases to function because of unsafe or unauthorized access to certain parts of the device and is a safety measure installed by the manufacturer. Users who attempt to hack a mobile phone run the risk of bricking the device. In most instances, if you brick your 6300, you cannot restore its functionality and must replace it with a new device. According to "PC World," an application that could help you unbrick the phone is the Hummingbird Interceptor Bootloader application, also known as the UnBrickable Mod.

Damage

You can cause physical damage to the Nokia 6300 and impair its volume and functionality by dropping the phone or immersing it in water. Turn the device off and back on again or remove and reinsert its battery to assess whether recent damage is the cause your problems. You may need to seek the help of an authorized service professional or purchase a new phone if the 6300 is severely damaged.

Considerations

The Nokia 6300's battery can also affect its ability to work properly. A standard lithium-ion battery provides the 6300 with up to 348 hours of standby time and up to 3.5 hours of talk time. If you use or leave the phone idle for long periods of time, you can rectify the problem by recharging the device. If your 6300 turns on, but does not respond to your commands, you may have inadequate available memory. With 7 megabytes of internal memory, the 6300 is likely to run out of storage space, which can make the phone unresponsive. The phone supports microSD cards for up to 2 gigabytes of expanded memory, which can help resolve memory issues.
