There are several reasons to upgrade your hard drive. Your hard drive may have suffered a crippling virus attack. Your hard drive may have crashed and is now completely unusable. You could just simply need more space for files, documents and software. Whatever the case, it is not very difficult to upgrade a hard drive on an HP Pavilion ZE5300 laptop. Some minor disassembly is required, but it does not require a lot of technical knowledge of hardware installation to complete.
Instructions
1. Turn off your laptop, disconnect the power cable, remove the battery pack and disconnect any other cables or external devices.
2. Place the laptop face-down, and then remove the two retaining Phillips-head screws securing the hard drive compartment cover in place. Remove the hard drive compartment cover, and then place the cover and its retaining screws to the side.
3. Slide the old hard drive out of the hard drive compartment. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws on either side of the drive tray. Disconnect the black hard drive connection adapter from the rear of the drive. Separate the hard drive from the tray and set it aside.
4. Attach the connector adaptor to the new hard drive. Place the new hard drive in the drive tray, line up the hard drive with the screw holes on the tray and install the two Phillips-head screws on either side of the hard drive.
5. Slide the new hard drive into the drive compartment until you hear a slight click. This means the hard drive has made a connection with the hard drive connector in the back of the drive compartment. Replace the hard drive compartment cover and the two retaining Phillips-head screws.
