Delete A Virus Using Dos

Delete works just like a virtual eraser when something bad gets written down.

Computers are like humans in one sense or the other. On some days they are extremely healthy and on other days they come down with a terrible illness. Viruses are the little critters that crawl into your computer system and cause all types of confusion. Some viruses are so devious that they require a special mode in which to delete and remove them. DOS is a command prompt system that usually works beneath all the security settings that prevent the novice user from compromising their system. If a virus prevents your computer from working properly, a good workaround is to use the DOS command prompt to manually remove the virus.

Instructions

1. Restart the computer. After it shuts down and starts back up, press the "F8" key to bring up a boot menu. Select the command "Start Windows in Safe Mode" to load the operating system in safe mode.

2. Press the windows key which can be found in the lower bottom left-hand corner of the keyboard between the "ctrl" and "alt" keys on the keyboard. Simultaneously press the "R" key on the keyboard to bring up the run command.

3. Type "cmd" into the run command window and press "OK." This command will bring up the command prompt window and allow you to get ready to start deleting the virus.

4. Type in "cd \folder name" to change the directory to where the virus is located. Press the "enter" key on the keyboard to complete the change directory command. Once you're in the folder that includes the files that you'll need to delete, type in "del nameofvirus.exe." The name of the virus might be different altogether. Change the command to reflect the files that are on your system.
