Identify A Phone By The Serial Number

Who's cell phone is it? Check the serial number.

If your cell phone is missing or stolen, you need to be able to identify the phone by its serial number. The serial number may be listed as an ESN (Electronic Serial Number) or as a MEID (Mobile Equipment Identification).

Instructions

1. Turn your phone on.

2. Dial "*#06#" and hit send. This will cause the electronic serial number (ESN) to be displayed on some phones; on others it will only attempt to dial the number. If the number appears, write it down. If no number appears go on to the next step.

3. Access the "Phone Info" section of your menu. You may have to consult your manual to find out where this option is listed. Some phones have it in "Tools," or under "Security." When you open up this option and scroll down, you'll see a listing for MEID, Mobile Identification Number or ESN listed. Write the number down. If you do not find this option, go on to the next step.

4. Remove the battery cover and battery. You will see a plaque attached to the inside of the phone with information printed on it, including the MEID or ESN. Copy the number down.
