Use The Computer'S Infrared As A Tv Remote

Turning your PC into a remote control means that you don't have to get up to change channels.

If you lost your remote control for your TV or you just don't want to get up from your PC, you can use your computer's infrared port as a remote. All you need is a piece of software that will allow your computer and your television to communicate. This way you can change the channel or increase the volume and never move away from your computer.

Instructions

1. Purchase the NetRemote software. This program works on both computers and pocket PCs and will turn them into remotes. As of December 2010 this program is $29.95 and comes with a 30-day free trial.

2. Download and install the program onto your computer and then restart it (see Resources).

3. Open up the application after installing it by clicking on the icon on the desktop. What looks like a remote control will appear on your screen.

4. Angle the infrared port of your computer towards the television. The port is usually located on the side of your computer and will be red in color. Click the "Setup" tab. You will see a list of items that you can control; select TV. Go to your television manual and find the infrared remote code. In the field marked "Infrared Remote Code," type the code in. . If you can't find it then simply point your remote control at your computer's infrared port and hold down the power button for five seconds. Once your code has been accepted press "OK."

5. Test the remote by changing channels and the volume.
