Make A Call Using The Internet

If your computer is connected to the Internet via a high-speed provider, you can make a phone call to any other computer, landline or cell phone number in the world. You will need to download and install a software program that supports Internet calls, such as Skype, Google Voice or Gizmo5. You must have a microphone and a stable Internet connection, so the call doesn't keep dropping every few seconds.

Instructions

1. Use Skype. The application is free and allows you to make free computer-to-computer calls. However, if you need to make a call to a landline or a cell phone, you will have to purchase Skype credit (available on its website). The call rates depend on the country you are calling to.

2. Use Gizmo5. Once you download and install the software, you will be able to use it in conjunction with your Google account. You can call to landline and cell phone numbers at affordable rates.

3. Use a Gmail account to make cell phone and landline calls to anywhere in the world. You need a valid Gmail account to enjoy this service. Add the "Google calls" feature for free. As of 2010, you can make free calls to any cell phone or landline number in the U.S. and Canada. The call rates for other countries are different. You don't need to install a stand-alone application. You can place calls directly from your web browser.
