Gprs Configuration

GPRS extends the capability of a mobile phone.

General packet radio service (GPRS) was created as an upgrade to the global system for mobile communication (GSM) to allow companies to give mobile phones more functions.

Function

At 2.5G, GPRS is considered midway between 2G (second generation) and 3G (third generation) mobile technology; it enhances the speed at which data is sent to and from the device, allowing it to do things such as access the Internet, receive email and make video calls.

Process

GPRS can be set up in a few different ways. The easiest way is to get your network provider to send to settings to you in a text message. Visit their website and enter your mobile number or send a particular code such as, "Get Settings" to a service number (i.e. 441 for T-Mobile.) Alternatively, you can find the settings online and enter them into the phone manually.

GPRS Classes

There are various classes into which a GPRS phone can fall; the class type is determined by the speed at which data can be transferred. The lowest class type, class 2, transfers at a speed of 8 kilobits (kbps) to 12 kbps upload/16 kbps to 24 kbps download. The highest, class 12, transfers at 32kbps to 48 kbps upload/32kbps to 48 kbps download.
