My Belkin Wireless G Router Is Slow

My Belkin Wireless G Router Is Slow

Belkin Wireless G routers may display performance issues due to wireless interference, incorrectly installed drivers or router positioning. The Belkin Wireless G router operates on the 2.4 GHz 802.11G band. This band is also used by microwaves, Bluetooth devices and cordless phones.

Instructions

1. Move the router away from other wireless devices, especially devices using wireless G networks. Microwaves, cordless phones and cell phones with Bluetooth are all susceptible to interfering with the Belkin Wireless G router.

2. Move your wireless device closer to the Belkin router. You may have your device outside the effective range of the router or interfering devices may be reducing the signal strength of the wireless network.

3. Right-click "Wireless Network Connection" in your system tray and choose "View All Available Wireless Networks." If there are many wireless networks with good signal strength being picked up on your device, the other networks may be causing interference. This is a common problem in dorms and apartment buildings where many wireless networks are present.

4. Open your Internet browser and type "192.168.2.1." Press "Enter." Click "Submit." Click "Channel and SSID." Select "Static" next to "Wireless Channel." Click "Apply" and "OK." Your Belkin router may be cycling channels when it detects interference from another network or device. When cycling channels, it resets the router and drops all wireless connections until it has reset.
