Enable A Sim Card

Enabling a SIM card in your mobile phone requires you to input the PIN or PUK (personal unlocking key) number, which can usually be obtained from the cell phone carrier. Once the SIM card has been enabled, you can change the PIN from the default number on most phones.

Instructions

1. Contact your cell phone provider to find out the SIM card PIN or PUK number for your device. You can find the provider's customer service number on its official website or on your bill.

2. Place the SIM card in your cell phone's SIM card slot and turn the phone on. Let the phone turn on completely, then access the menu. Choose "settings" from within the menu options.

3. Select "Locations and Security" and locate the option to set up the SIM card. If you don't see this option on the cell phone, try looking for "Applications" in the Settings options. From "Applications" choose "Phone" then "SIM Security." Another possible menu option is "SIM Center." These options vary depending on the cell phone model. Obviously, if your phone does not utilize a SIM card there will be no options for enabling one.

4. Choose "Enable SIM Lock" or "Enable SIM Card" or "Setup SIM Card Lock" or "SIM Security," depending on cell phone model. You will be prompted to enter the PIN.

If the PIN was changed and you cannot recall the new PIN, contact your provider's customer service department. The representative there will provide a default PIN that can be used to access the SIM card. If the card cannot be enabled even with the default PIN, the card might be damaged.

5. Call your cell phone provider if you have a problem enabling the SIM card. Use different phone so that your cell phone can still be opened up for access if need be.
