Use A Mobile Phone Gps Without The Internet

Cell phones can guide you even without Internet.


Being able to simply pull out your cell phone to navigate your way to a location is something more consumers are taking advantage of. There are many free options, including Google Navigation, but they require that you have Internet to access the maps. To access maps offline, you will have to purchase a mobile GPS solution.


Instructions


1. Download and install TomTom Mobile Navigator for your cell phone. This is an application that is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and Windows Mobile devices. TomTom for the iPhone and iPod Touch can be found in the iTunes App Store for you to easily download, install and begin using in minutes. TomTom for Windows Mobile can be purchased from TomTom's online store (see Resources). You will receive an SD card with the maps and software to install to your phone.


2. Download and install Garmin Mobile for your Blackberry device. It is available for purchase through Blackberry's online store. They also a free seven-day trial so you can try it our before you purchase it. After purchasing or opting for the free trial, you will receive a link to download the software to your device. Offline maps are included with Garmin Mobile so you will not have to have Internet access after your initial download of the software.


3. Download and install Telenav Navigation to your device. Telenav is compatible with several cell phones, including the iPhone, T-Mobile MyTouch 3G and Samsung Vibrant. Telenav on the iPhone is rebranded as AT&T Navigator but it offers the same functionality. See the Resources section of this article to see all the devices that are compatible with Telenav.
