It can be very frustrating to download an interesting image only to find that it is saved in a mysterious CPH extension, seemingly unable to open on your computer. CPH files are not as widely used as JPG, GIF or even PSP image files, but with the right know-how you can use these valuable niche files.
File Type
CPH files are executable; in other words, they can be opened. However, they require specific programs in order to view the information; they cannot self-execute like an EXE file.
File Contents
CPH files contain layers of images piled on top of each other in one single file. This is why it is difficult for standard, single-layer image programs to view the file contents.
Associated Program
According to Sharpened.net's technology help center, files with the CPH extension are associated with Corel Print House. Print House was marketed as an image organizer, allowing users to arrange layers of images for printing multi-image scrapbooks, calendars and similar items.
Problems
The CPH extension is completely unusable outside of Print House. Even other Corel-brand image programs, such as Corel Draw and Corel Paint Shop, do not allow users to open this file type.
Use the File
You can still use the file, but you will need Corel Print House to do so. Print House is no longer sold in stores, but it is available for direct download at CNet.com.
