Use A Prepaid Phone

Use a Prepaid Phone

Prepaid phones offer you the advantage of having a cell phone without the high cost of a monthly bill. With a prepaid phone, you can add minutes when you need them and never pay for the extra features you don't need. It's also a great way to monitor your child's cell phone usage and control the number of minutes they can use.

Instructions

1. Buy a prepaid phone of your choice. Today they offer many different features, from standard phone phone calls and text messages, to versions that offer built in MP3 players, cameras and a display screen on the front. More features will result in a more expensive phone. Keep in mind when choosing your cell phone that sending picture messages costs additional minutes, as do text messages.

2. Call the number that comes with your phone to activate it. This should be listed on the instructions with your phone. When you call the number, a representative will walk you through the steps of activating your phone. This will require you to give him personal information about yourself, such as your home address, and to enter several numbers into your phone. If you do not understand a step, ask for further instructions.

3. Choose the number of minutes you think you will need. You can add more at anytime. Typically a person will start off buying one of the cards featuring minutes in the hundreds. There will be a number on the card that you can call to add minutes to your phone. Depending on your company you may or may not have to talk to a real customer service provider. You can also buy minutes online and add them to your phone. Visit your cell phone company's website to see if they offer this feature.
